About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established law firm with over 40 years' experience delivering an industry-leading service to clients across the UK, specialising in housing litigation. The firm acts for tenants living in sub-standard accommodation, holding landlords to account, and is rated 4.8 on Trustpilot and Reviews.io for client care. This is a fabulous opportunity to join a well-established and growing in-house Costs Team, supporting fee earners and solicitors across the firm's civil Housing Disrepair caseload, from drafting cost schedules through to recovering costs on successfully resolved claims. You'll also supervise junior costs paralegals and may get involved in enforcement work.

Responsibilities

  • ·Liaise with fee earners and solicitors on costs for concluded cases
  • ·Draft legal costs for court hearings relating to Statutory Nuisance claims under the Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • ·Draft and negotiate legal costs for Housing Disrepair and associated Breach of Contract claims
  • ·Supervise junior costs paralegals supporting the in-house Costs Team
  • ·Support enforcement of payment of legal costs and/or damages where required (advantageous, not essential)
  • ·Assist with other duties as needed to support the smooth running of the business

What We're Looking For

  • ·Circa 2+ years' legal costs drafting experience
  • ·IT literate, with previous use of costs management software (Costs Master used)
  • ·Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills
  • ·Excellent attention to detail, able to work at pace while minimising errors
  • ·Well organised, able to prioritise and work to tight timescales in a busy environment
  • ·Based within a commutable distance of Manchester or Liverpool (hybrid working)
